We came across this little cafe online when we were looking for a good, healthy dinner in Davis. It turned out to be a gem tucked away on a small street in an older row of retail shops. Street parking was free on Saturday. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and drink. The ginger fizz was homemade and as good as anywhere in the region. The curried vegetables over pasta was delicious, with a perfect blend of sweet and savory tastes. The hostess took pride in her food and ingredients, and it's easy to imagine her putting in long hours to ensure everything they serve is healthy and truly delicious. The produce was obviously very fresh, and we even got an heirloom tomato in a salad. The decor is unpretentious but homey. This food fits the bill for cuisine that is both very healthy and very well prepared. It's in the same overall vein as the cafe at the Sacramento Natural Foods Coop, except it's less commercial and has higher quality food that is more hand-crafted. Do try it if you are in Davis. Call to confirm the hours, as they have a small staff and may close early some days.

This place is right up my alley-- I love supporting local businesses! I made a goal to try every restaurant in Davis before the year ended and I'm so pleased to have found Farmer's Kitchen Cafe downtown. Apparently everything here is organic and locally-grown, which makes me love it even more.
Coming in on a weekday afternoon it was quiet, save for an older couple dining in silence. I seated myself quietly and wasn't handed a menu until maybe 10 mins later-- it was awkward, but maybe I was supposed to order at the counter first? Idk. The owner (?) was very friendly and welcoming otherwise.
Farmer's Kitchen has that kitschy-comfortable sorta vibe. The classical music playing softly in the background clashes with your garish surroundings, but it's a lovable tackiness nonetheless. From the mismatched tablecloths to the clutter of wall decor, the easygoing feel makes you wanna kick back & relax like you're home.
The fridge lining the back of the room showcases the local goods available for purchase, like pasta, vegetables, and more. I'm ecstatic they do this, because ya girl looooves to sleep in on the weekend (and subsequently miss the Saturday farmer's market); well, now I know where to go for organic groceries later in the day ^_^
I had the vegetable/mushroom omelette, which was more crispy than fluffy. The egg was over-salted for my liking, but the veggies inside were tender and delicious.
I had no idea that the omelette came with salad, and a peculiar one at that-- made up of citrus, celery, carrot, apple, and mixed greens. I think I was given balsamic vinaigrette but it didn't mesh well at all. The salad components were already ill-matched as they were, and the vinaigrette just bittered things up. Maybe I'm more of a sweet tooth, but I would've preferred a raspberry or fruity vinaigrette instead. The salad for sure tasted fresh, though!
One unfortunate thing that happened though: I was drinking my water and felt something in my mouth, figured it was a seed from the lemon slice-- Surprise, It was a piece of plastic (presumably from plastic utensils). Good thing I spat it out bc it was pretty sharp :-( Hope they're more careful in the future. -

Oh here we go. Local hippies! I love it!
Be sure to stop by the pot store on F Street and get good and stoned and then you are gonna dig this.
I am proudly not vegan. That is why my body came with incisors.
No. I want meat. I need meat and we all need meat or we end up looking like Kate Winslet and who wants that?
Friendly staff and easy parking. -

It was ok. Love that it was gluten free- (the whole place that is)veggie burger came on a fridge ( possibly formerly freezer) cold bun and had the consistency of black bean hummus, nothing like any veggie burger I have ever had. It was a pate. Chicken sand-which tasted funky. The pineapple drinks- $4.50 a pop-were also ok, they tasted of diluted pineapple and cinnamon- nothing to call home about. This place has the ability to be amazing. It's just not there yet.

Again Roseanne and her family go above and beyond to cook something truly high-quality and delicious for her customers with her Thanksgiving meals this year. At first, I thought the price was a bit high, and I waited for the food for longer than I had planned for. I purchased three meals and three pieces of pie. But the next day when I opened up the Tupperware and heated up the food, it was more than enough to feed four people with a couple of side dishes that I made as well.
Everything was so so good! The turkey was tender and everyone said it was amazing. I showed them the website with Branigan's turkey farm in Woodland, and we felt so good about buying/eating local, organic, and pasture-raised. All of the other dishes were perfect. For a group of at least two extremely picky eaters, Farmer's Kitchen passed the test! I don't know of another business that cares so much about what their customers are eating, and takes such care/time to make sure everything is absolutely perfect.
Thank you, Farmer's Kitchen!!!
